By Cindy Pierson Dulay, About.com Guide to Horse Racing
The Triple Crown - Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes - are the biggest events of the year in North American racing for 3-year-old Thoroughbreds and are followed by both serious and casual fans. Here you will find previews and news leading up to each event, coverage and photos of the event, and historical information including past results.
The Kentucky Derby

The most important of the three races and the one almost everyone knows about even if they don't follow racing. Held on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs in Lousiville, KY, it is THE race that every horse owner wants to win.
