The Triple Crown - Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes - are the biggest events of the year in North American racing for 3-year-old Thoroughbreds and are followed by both serious and casual fans. The Kentucky Derby

The most important of the three races and the one almost everyone knows about even if they don't follow racing. Held on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs in Lousiville, KY, it is THE race that every horse owner dreams of winning.

The Preakness

The second race of the Triple Crown is held two weeks after the Kentucky Derby at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore, MD. Slightly shorter than the Derby, it is the shortest of the three races a 1 3/16 miles.

Belmont Stakes

The final race of the Triple Crown is held three weeks after the Preakness in early June at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY, on Long Island. It is the longest of the three races at 1 1/2 miles and is known as the "Test of Champions".
