Ira "Babe" Hanford who won the 1936 Kentucky Derby aboard Bold Venture passed away on November 21st in Ocala, Florida, at the age of 91 after a lengthy illness. He was the first apprentice jockey to win the Kentucky Derby and before his death was the oldest living Derby winning jockey.

Frankel passed away on Monday at his home in Pacific Palisades from complications of lymphoma, which had returned 6 months ago after he beat it 10 years prior. He was a top trainer for over 40 years and was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1995. He not only won 5 Eclipse Awards as top trainer but trained 10 horses who won 11 individual Eclipse Awards.
