The field passes the stands for the first time, as favorite Bob and John rushes up to set the pace but eventually finishes eighth. Jockey Garrett Gomez said, "My mind is still in a boggle with this horse. We really had a good trip and there were no excuses. He went out there really easily. When I asked him to run, he wasn't there." Trainer Bob Baffert added, "I think that strong headwind took a lot out of him going down the backstretch. I also thought the race was too far for him. He still is an immature horse and needs more time to develop."
