2008 Kentucky Derby Undercard Results

Eight older fillies and mares entered the $300,000 Humana Distaff (G1), the first of three Grade 1 stakes races on Derby day. 2-1 favorite Sugar Swirl and 5-2 second choice Hystericalady battled on the pace getting fractions of 22.27 and 44.31 over the fast track. Entering the stretch, Hystericalady took over the lead and opened up a 1 1/2 length advantage at the 1/8 pole. However, 14-1 shot Intangaroo, who was unhurried back in 7th early, put in a three-wide rally, joined by 17-1 Baroness Thatcher. The pair closed with a rush to catch Hystericalady late in a three-horse photo. Intangaroo got the win by a head in 1:22.03 over Baroness Thatcher, by a nose over Hystericalady, while favorite Sugar Swirl faded late to finish fifth.
