The $600,000 Flower Bowl Invitational (G1) is the major local prep for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf, but only 5 went to the gate in this 1 1/4 mile event over the inner turf course. Beverly D Stakes runner-up Film Maker was the 3-2 choice over 2-1 Honey Ryder from the powerful Todd Pletcher barn.

Longshot Jade Queen set a pace of 24.95, 50.36, 1:14.86, and 1:39.08 while being stalked by Argentina down the backstretch. Argentima faded from contention at the top of the stretch, allowing Jade Queen to stretch her lead to 1 1/2 lengths with a furlong to go. However, Honey Ryder and Film Maker were closing well, and the threesome battled through the final 1/16. Honey Ryder got her nose down where it mattered, getting the victory by a nose over Film Maker in 2:02.47. It was just 1/2 a length back to pacesetter Jade Queen in third.
