The Juvenile Fillies division competed in the Matron (G1), with Magical Ride bet down to 6-5 favoritism off her third place finish in the Adirondack at Saratoga. Also in the field of six were Adirondack winner and 5-2 second choice Octave, and 3-1 third choice Cash's Girl, runaway winner of her debut at Delaware.

The pace was very fast early, as 7-1 Featherbed dueled with 34-1 longest shot Meadow Breeze through fractions of 22.73 and 45.93 down the backstretch. Turning for home, Featherbed continued to hold the lead through 6 furlongs in 1:11.28 but Meadow Breeze found another gear late to just get her head out in front at the line for the win in 1:24.82. Octave rallied from fifth early to dead-heat for second place, 8 1/4 lengths clear of the rest of the field.
