The co-feature on Woodbine Mile day was the $750,000 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes (G1) for older horses going 1 1/2 miles on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course. A field of 9 started after the late scratch of Musketier, with last year's winner Champs Elysees sent off as the 5-2 favorite off a close second in the Sky Classic Stakes last out. Second choice was Marchfield at 3-1 who defeated Champs Elysees in the Sky Classic, while Arlington Million runner-up Just as Well was sent off as the 7-2 third choice.
Longshot Medjool took the lead at the start and set early fractions of 24.98, 49.73, 1:14.62, and 1:39.34, while as many as 6 1/2 lengths in front of Marsh Side. Jockey Garrett Gomez kept Champs Elysees well back in 7th, saving ground around both turns. On the far turn, Medjool tired and faded from contention, allowing Marsh Side to take over at the top of the stretch through 1 1/4 miles in 2:03.83. Quijano, who stalked the pace in 4th, and Champs Elysees made headway through the stretch but inside the 1/8 pole Marsh Side bore in on Quijano who in turn caused Champs Elysees to check. Jockey Julien Leparoux took Just as Well to the outside for the drive, but Marsh Side held him off to win by half a length in 2:26.68. Quijano was a head back in 3rd and Champs Elysees another 3/4 length back in 4th.
Jockey Garrett Gomez on Champs Elysees claimed foul against both Quijano and Marsh Side after the interference in the stretch. A lengthy stewards inquiry lead to the disqualification of Marsh Side and placed him 4th behind Champs Elysees. It was ruled that he interfered with Quijano and subsequently Champs Elysees, giving the victory to Just as Well, 2nd place to Quijano, and 3rd place to Champs Elysees.
