Before New York racing moves north to Saratoga, the top 3-year-old fillies on the East Coast go in the $300,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) at Belmont Park. Nine went to the gate in this 1 1/4 mile main track feature, with Mother Goose runner-up Pine Island sent off as the 5-4 favorite. 5-1 second choice Sugar Shake led the field through the first 3/4 in 1:11.52, with 9-1 Wonder Lady Anne L stalking the pace just to her outside, and 17-1 Teammate in third alongside these two. At the top of the stretch, Wonder Lady Anne L took over the lead from the tiring Sugar Shake, and opened up a 6-length lead at the 1/8 pole. Pine Island was outrun early and was putting in her usual late rally, but was left with too much to do, as Wonder Lady Anne L held her off by 3/4 length in a time of 2:04.63 over the muddy, sealed track. It was 1 1/4 more to 15-1 Miss Shop in third.
