The $150,000 Dwyer Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles on the main track marked the return of two Kentucky Derby contestants to the track. Derby 10th place finisher Nobiz Like Shobiz was the 7-5 favorite over 8-5 second choice Any Given Saturday, who was 8th in the Run for the Roses. Phipps homebred Sightseeing, winner of the Peter pan, was the 5-2 third choice in this compact field of just five colts.

Believeinmenow, the longest shot on the board at 23-1, battled on the pace with Any Given Saturday through fractions of 23.87, 47.05, and 1:10.93, while Nobiz Like Shobiz sat close up third to their outside. At the top of the stretch, Believeinmenow faded from the pace duel allowing Any Given Saturday an easy lead of 1 1/2 lengths at the 1/8 pole. Nobiz Like Shobiz put in his rally late but Any Given Saturday pulled away to a 4-length victory in 1:40.69. Sightseeing finished 5 lengths behind Nobiz Like Shobiz in third.
