The undercard feature on Met Mile day was the $65,000 Richmond Runner Stakes, a 6 1/2 furlong sprint on the main track for New York-bred older horses. Heavy 1-5 favorite Commentator ran as expected in the field of five, breaking from the gate quickest of all and leading at every call through a quick pace of 22.56 and 45.98. Ridden out to the finish by Corey Nakatani, he won by 11 1/4 lengths over 15-1 Executive Search in 1:15.69. 6-1 second choice Starcastic was third.
