On Sunday July 16 a field of eight will go to the post in the 71st running of the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes, the second leg of Canada's Triple Crown. Seven of them made their last start in the Queen's Plate, including the winner Edenwold who is the 5-2 favorite on the morning line and drew post 2 with Emile Ramsammy aboard. "I think he's the horse to beat," said Ramsammy, following the workout Monday morning. "He's so professional and classy."
Sterwins, who finished second in the Plate, is the second choice at 3-1. Chris Decarlo takes over as the rider, replacing John Velazquez who has other commitments. Sterwins is owned by Melnyk Racing Stable and trained by Todd Pletcher. "We're right on target," said Pletcher from his barn at Belmont. "He ran a huge race in the Plate."
Third choice at 4-1 is Malakoff. He is owned by Stronach Stables and trained by Brian Lynch. "He's doing very good off the Plate," said Lynch. "If he's set to run a big one, it will be the race off the Plate."
The Prince of Wales Stakes is scheduled to go at 5:10PM on Sunday. The race will be broadcast live on The Score Sports Network from 4:30 to 5:30PM. Free past performances are now available here.
