On Sunday July 15 a field of six will go to the post in the 72nd running of the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes, the second leg of Canada's Triple Crown. Five of them made their last start in the Queen's Plate, including the winner Mike Fox who is the 9-5 favorite on the morning line and drew post 5 with Emma-Jayne Wilson aboard.
Trainer Ian Black siad of the surface switch, "Most of us (in the field) are coming off the Polytrack anyway. Emma-Jayne Wilson is a very good jockey, very strong, very smart, what you're looking for in a rider, top notch. In a six horse field I'd rather have drawn to the inside but having Alezzandro to our outside is an advantage. "
Queen's Plate runner-up Alezzandro is the 2-1 second choice on the morning line and will again have Todd Kabel aboard.
Jiggs Coz, who finished third in the Plate, is the third choice at 5-2 and David Clark retains the mount. Trainer Sid Attard saidm Trainer Sid Attard said, "We will ship in Sunday morning. (In the race) we'd like to get close (to the pace) but not necessarily on the lead, like he did in the Plate Trial. His exercise rider said he had no problems working over the dirt (Woodbine's training track)."
The Prince of Wales, contested at 1 3/16 miles on the main track at Fort Erie Racetrack, is scheduled to go at 4:48PM ET on Sunday. The race will be broadcast live on The Score Sports Network as well as at selected simulcast locations. Free past performances will be available here.
