The imposing daughter of Storm Cat, the winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (Grade I) and her 2005 debut in Santa Anita's Santa Ysabel (GIII), has been listed by Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia as the 4-1 morning line choice among 24 wagering interests in KOFW Pool 1. Those wagering interests include 23 individual horses and a mutuel field that includes all other 3-year-old fillies. The mutuel field is the 5-1 second choice in Battaglia's morning line and is the only other wagering interest installed at odds that are lower than 10-1.
The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, which is entering its third year and is being offered in a three-pool format for the second consecutive year, allows racing fans to bet on candidates for the Kentucky Oaks at odds that could be more attractive than those they would receive on the day of the race. The winning payout for each pool is based on the odds at the close of betting of that specific pool. Payouts are made when the race is declared "official."
Wagering on the pool opens at Noon (all times EST) on Thursday at racetracks and satellite wagering centers throughout North America and continues through Sun., Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. The close of wagering in Oaks Future pool is scheduled 30 minutes later than the close of betting in Pool 1 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which will be offered concurrently during that four-day betting period. Pool 2 of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager is set for March 10-13 and the third and final KOFW pool of 2005 is scheduled for April 7-10.
"Sweet Catomine was a dominant champion at two and ran faster than her male counterparts on Breeders' Cup Day at Lone Star Park, so she is a very deserving favorite in Pool 1 of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager," said Battaglia. "There are some other promising fillies among the betting interests in the wager's opening pool, but they have yet to approach the level of Sweet Catomine to this point. It's also early enough that some late developing fillies may emerge, so there also figures to be solid support in this pool for the mutuel field."
