The $2 million Netjets Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) saw 13 older horses go 1 mile on the soft turf course. Cosmonaut set a pace of 24.26, 49.54, and 1:14.65, and held the lead to the 1/8 pole. However, Kip Deville, who had stalked him in third the whole way, found running room at the top of the stretch and surged to the lead at the 1/16 pole, holding off late-running favorite Excellent Art to win by a length in 1:39.78. Pacesetter Cosmonaut finished another length back in third.

Winning trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. said, "I couldn't be more excited. I knew he was doing very good going into this race. My only concern was him liking the track. I was under the impression that he was going to get a good The owners made that decision (to supplement) based on how good the horse had run and how he was coming into this race. The key was for him liking the track. It looks like he did."

Jockey Cornelio Velasquez added, "He broke very fast but I didn't want to go to the lead, so I covered him up. At the quarter-pole, I had a lot of horse, and when I was able to get clear, he took off. He absolutely loved (the soft going)."
