The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) is one of the original seven Championship Day races, first run in 1984, and is restricted to two-year-old fillies only. It is contested at 1 1/16 miles on the main (dirt or synthetic) track, with the exceptions of 1984 at Hollywood, 1985 at Aqueduct, and 1987 at Hollywood when it was run at one mile, and 2002 at Arlington when it was contested at 1 1/8 miles. For several years it was the first Breeders' Cup race on Championship day. The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies was granted Grade 1 status by the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association for its very first running, and was run for a $1 million purse until 2006 when the prize money was doubled to its current $2 million level. It was moved to Championship Friday, "Ladies Day", for the 2008 running at Santa Anita. The fastest running time at the 8 1/2 furlong distance was by the Eoin Harty-trained Tempera in 2001 at Belmont Park, in 1:41.49, while the slowest was Open Mind in 1:46.60 in 1988 at Churchill Downs. The shortest priced winner was Flanders in 1994 who paid $2.80 at Churchill Downs, while the biggest upset winner was Caressing who paid $96.00 to win, also at Churchill Downs. The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies race picked up Alberto-Culver's Alberto VO5 brand as a title sponsor in 2005 for one running at Belmont Park, was unsponsored in 2006 (at Churchill Downs), and then was sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka in 2007 (at Monmouth Park), Bessemer Trust in 2008 (at Santa Anita), and then Grey Goose Vodka from 2009 (at Santa Anita) to the present.
