Breeders' Cup Week Schedule of Events

October 23 - November 11: Breeders' Cup Photo Exhibit

A collection of of photographs from the previous 16 runnings at the Kentucky Derby Museum. Monday - Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday Noon to 5pm.
October 29 - November 5: Breeders' Cup Trophy
The official Breeders' Cup trophy, a replica of the Torrie horse by Italian renaissance artist Giovanni de Bologna will be on display in the Churchill Downs Paddock. The horse stands 3 feet tall and is on a 3 1/2 foot solid marble base that weighs 4000 lbs.
September 16 - November 12: Photographs by Linda McCartney
Portrait of an Era features 50 photos from the rock scene of the 60's by Linda McCartney, late wife of Beatle icon Paul McCartney. Check the link for hours and directions.
October 31 - November 3: Breeders' Cup Dawn at the Downs
Watch the Breeders' Cup contenders work out in the mornings from 7am to 10am. Buffet breakfast available in the Eclipse Dining Room or continental breakfast at the trackside rail. Free admission and parking.
October 31: Breeders' Cup Call to the Post Luncheon
Official kick-off to the 2000 Breeders' Cup celebration starts at noon at the Galt House East Grand Ballroom. Tickets are $45 each and entertainment will be provided by the political comedy troupe "The Capitol Steps".
November 1: Handicapping Contest
Churchill Downs' weekly contest with $2000 in prize money and an invitation to the November 22nd finals. Registration starts at 11:30am by the Skye Terrace elevators and entry fee is $20. This week there is a special contest handicapping the Breeders' Cup races for additional prizes.
November 1 - 2: Breeders' Cup FanFest
Interactive festival for all race fans from 5pm to 9pm at the Kentucky International Convention Center. Jockey and trainer autographs, virtual reality racing games, seminars, contests, and more. Lots of kids activities too. Admission is $5 per person with children 12 and under free.
November 3: Breeders' Cup Jockey and Trainer Autograph Session
10:30am to noon at Churchill Downs. Souvenir packs of Breeders' Cup trading cards will be given away to the first 5000 patrons.
November 3: All-Star Announcers' Day
National sports commentators and track announcers from prominent tracks take turns calling each of the day's races at Churchill Downs.
November 3: Breeders' Cup Charity Gala
Black-tie affair with dinner, dancing, charity auction and performances by Marvin Hamlisch and Betty Buckley. Tickets are $350 each and proceeds go to charity. Reservation info is here.
November 3: Louisville Pops Breeders' Cup Eve Celebration
Featuring Broadway singer Patti LuPone and the Louisville Orchestra. Starts at 8pm and tickets are $25.50 to $47.50.
November 3: Rock Concert at Jillian's
Featuring Hootie & The Blowfish and Edwin McCain.
November 4: Breeders' Cup Breakfast
Elaborate and exclusive breakfast at the Kentucky Derby Museum from 9am to 11am. $85 per person and reservations are required.
November 4: Welcoming Ceremonies
Special ceremonies on the track start at 11am and include a presentation of the Breeders' Cup jockeys, musical performances, and greetings from community leaders. First post is noon with the first Breeders' Cup race at 1:12pm (see race schedule below).
November 5: Churchill Downs T-Shirt Giveaway
The first 10,000 fans through the admission gate will get a free Churchill Downs t-shirt that will give you free admission to the track on weekdays when you wear it for the rest of the fall meet. If you are not leaving until later on Sunday, be sure to drop by and get this cheap souvenir. :-)
