Pool Two horses and odds opens March 11-14.
Wagering is closed now for Pool One of this year's Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Pool Two will open March 11-14 and Pool Three will be open April 1-4. Total wagering for Pool One was $536,958 for the $2 minimum wager, the second highest ever for Pool One.
As expected the field wound up the favorite at 9-5, including a single $30,000 wager placed on day one. Nick Zito trainee Eurosilver closed as the pool's second choice at 11-1 and his stablemate Birdstone, an impressive allowance winner in his 2004 debut at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, was close behind at 12-1. Sadly Second of June who finished second in the Fountain of Youth on Saturday had to be suspended from the wagering on Sunday after it was discovered he had suffered a leg injury in that race. He will need surgery to treat it and will be off the rest of the year, but is expected to recover. There are no refunds in the Future Wager, so any bets placed on him prior to the suspension of wagering are losers.
The Oaks Future Wager, which was offered for the first time during the month of February, closed with total wagering of $66,425, including $41,190 wagered on Sunday. Halfbridled came out the favorite at 7-2 while the field was second favorite at 5-1.
Past performances for Pool One are available online free from BRIS for both the Derby and Oaks pools. Here are the horses included with morning line and closing odds:
