Decca/UMG
Music from the highly anticipated film, Seabiscuit, was released on Decca/UMG Soundtracks on July 22, 2003. Seabiscuit is an American epic of triumph and perseverance set during the Great Depression. Based on Laura Hillenbrand's best-selling book, Seabiscuit: An American Legend, the film tells the true story of three men - a jockey (Tobey Maguire), a trainer (Chris Cooper) and a businessman (Jeff Bridges) - and the down-and-out racehorse that took them and the entire nation on the ride of a lifetime. Rounding out the emotional narrative of this poignant story is a tender, yet vibrant score from Academy Award-winning composer Randy Newman. With his consistent penchant for bringing stories to life through music, Newman seals the heart and soul of Seabiscuit's themes with this memorable soundtrack.

Randy Newman is synonymous with great film scores, having composed music for blockbusters such as The Natural, Monsters, Inc., Meet The Parents, A Bug's Life and Pleasantville among others. His work as a film composer began in 1981 with Ragtime, for which he was nominated for two Academy Awards. In total, he has been nominated for an astounding 16 Academy Awards and finally won his first for Best Song from the film Monsters, Inc. (2001). Later this year, Newman will release the first of a three-volume collection, The Randy Newman Songbook, on Nonesuch Records.

With unparalleled vision and talent, Newman has constructed music for Seabiscuit that strikingly matches the movie in both theme and intensity. His heartwarming score is packed with gentle melodies that are accentuated by beautiful acoustic guitar playing, reminiscent of his fantastic music from The Natural and Ragtime. Taking the listener on a journey through the early 20th century, the disc harkens back to a simple time in America's cultural landscape. This special enhanced CD also features exclusive bonus materials including the film's trailer, a photo gallery and web links all relating to Seabiscuit.

Seabiscuit, a Universal Pictures, Dream Works Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment production directed by Gary Ross (Pleasantville), was released on July 25, 2003 in theatres nationwide.
