2008 Preakness Workout Photos It was a busy morning at Pimlico Thursday as several of the Preakness horses were out on track to stretch their legs. Among the horses taking advantage of the warm and sunny weather were Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown (right) and second choice Gayego. Here are 10 photos for 9 different horses with workout comments.
Preakness Entries and Post Positions Thursday May 15, 2008 | permalink | comments (0) 2008 Alibi Breakfast The Thursday before the Preakness the traditional Alibi Breakfast is held where the trainers of all the horses make their excuses in case they don't win on Saturday and annual awards are given. Preakness Entries and Post Positions Thursday May 15, 2008 | permalink | comments (0) 2008 Preakness Entries 13 3-year-olds were entered for the 133rd running of the Preakness, the second jewel of the Triple Crown. As expected, Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown made the heavy favorite at odds of 1-2 and will preak from post 7. The only other Derby horse to enter was Gayego who will break from post 12 and is second favorite at 8-1. Get the post positions, odds, and free past performances here.

Preakness 101 - history and overview of the second jewel of the Triple Crown Monday May 5, 2008 | permalink | comments (0) Eight Belles Tribute A photo tribute to the gallant filly Eight Belles who finished second to Big Brown in the 2008 Kentucky Derby, then tragically broke both front ankles about a quarter mile after the finish and had to be euthanized. She will be missed by many.

Preakness Weather Forecasts Monday May 5, 2008 | permalink | comments (0) Big Brown wins the 2008 Kentucky Derby Favorite Big Brown stalked the early pace then opened up in the stretch to win the 2008 Kentucky Derby by 4 3/4 lengths to become the first horse to win the Derby from post position 20 using a starting gate and the first since 1915 to win off just three lifetime starts. The filly Eight Belles finished second, but sadly broke down after the race. Denis of Cork closed from last to finish third.
