The King's Stand Stakes (G2) was first run as the Stand Plate in 1837. A field of twenty older horses went to the gate in this 5 furlong straight sprint for a purse of £200,000 (about $399,000 US). 3-1 favorite and 6-year-old mare Miss Andretti beat the boys with an impressive stalking trip, taking over the lead with 3/16 to go and drawing away to win by 1 1/2 lengths over 15-2 Dandy Man, in a new course record time of 57.44. It was just a neck back to 14-1 Magnus, and then 1/2 a length more to 11-2 Takeover Target in fourth. Australian invaders took 3 of the top 4 placings.

Winning trainer Lee Freedman said, "She is skinny and the trainer is fat. It has always been my dream to win a Group 1 in Europe, and this race should be a Group 1, but this is the first time I have had the chance. But now we have done it, and it is no real surprise that Miss Andretti has beaten the clock as she has broken four track records in Australia."

Winning jockey Craig Newitt said, "At home Miss Andretti can run a bit keen, but they were going so fast that we were able to sit on the speed and when I picked her up a furlong and a half out she took off. She is not very big, but she has that amazing will-to-win, and that sets her apart from everything else."
