The Prince of Wales's Stakes (G1) was first run in 1862, named after the son of Queen Victoria who would later become King Edward VII. A compact field of just six went 1 1/4 miles for a purse of £350,000 (about $697,000 US). 15-8 favorite Manduro settled in third early under patient handling by jockey Stephane Pasquier, stalking the pace of 11-1 Sir Percy and 13-2 Notnowcato to the top of the stretch, then took over the lead at the 1/4 pole and drew off to win by 1 1/4 miles over late-running 2-1 second choice Dylan Thomas, completing the trip in 2:05.91 over the good course. It was a long 4 lengths back to Notnowcato in third, and 3/4 more to Breeders' Cup Turf winner Red Rocks.

Winning trainer Andre Fabre said, "He got boxed in last year and is a horse who needs space. I don't want to blame jockeys before but Stephane had a clear run this time. He's a top-class miler and pace is not a problem for him. I was a little worried with the distance last year but I'm convinced he'll get a mile and a half. He's entered in the King George and the Arc as the obvious target."

Winning owner Baron Georg von Ullmann added, "It is amazing, we've been here a few times but a winner had never come our way. It's a dream. He was very unlucky last year. He had three or four rides where he was in the wrong position and perhaps he could have won more races. Pasquier fits the horse very well and they are a marriage made in heaven."

Aidan O'Brien, trainer of runner-up Dylan Thomas said, "We are delighted, he's run really well. We've no excuses with the ground as it was right for him. There's nothing planned at the moment."
