Kicking off closing day of the Festival was the £100,000 JCB Triumph Hurdle for 4 year olds. A field of 17 went the 2 1/8 mile distance over 8 hurdles. 14-1 Barizan went to the front immediately and set an uncontested pace, opening up a 15 length lead with 2 jumps remaining. However, He hit the second last jump allowing 6-1 Soldatino to move up with within 5 lengths, but after a mistake on the final fence, Soldatino easily passed him in the stretch to win by 1 1/4 lengths in 4:04.90 over the good turf. It was another 7 lengths back to 9-2 Alaivan third, while 7-2 favorite Carlito Brigande was another 3 1/4 lengths back in fourth.
Winning trainer Nicky Henderson said, "I'm thrilled for the horse - he's only a baby. He's very inexperienced and this was always going to be tough. I feel sorry for the second because he's ran a fantastic race. I was worried because there was a long way to go and a big gap. He is a baby, but he does stay and is an exciting horse." Jockey Barry Geraghty added, "It was a good performance. The second went off very quick. He's not Make A Stand so I reckoned he'd come back but I knew turning in that I would get him. I was happy where I had my fellow turning in. It was a good race."
