Won his 2009 debut in the Lane's End Stakes at Turfway Park, then was 2nd in the Blue Grass at Keeneland, and 12th in the Kentucky Derby. Tried the turf in the Virginia Derby but was 5th, then finished 2nd in the Travers on the slop behind Summer Bird. Went to the Kentucky Cup Classic next and disappointed as a huge favorite, finishing 6th.
