Broke his maiden in his first start last year at Churchill Downs then was undistinguished in a series of allowance races. Changed trainers and moved to Tampa Bay Downs in December and ran 2nd in the Inaugural Stakes then 2nd again in the Pasco Stakes in January. Won the Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay by 3 1/2 lengths then bounced in the Tampa Bay Derby running a lackluster 5th, then came back to win the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland in his final prep. In the Kentucky Derby, he ran an even race and finished 10th. Never really in the race during the Preakness and faded to finish 9th after being steadied in the stretch.
