Unraced as a 2-year-old, the $3.7 million Keeneland yearling purchase broke his maiden first out on January 24 at Gulfstream Park. Came back on February 19 to win a 1 1/8 mile allowance going away in 1:50, making him the current "wise guy" pick. Made a good rally in the Florida Derby couldn't catch Quality Road and had to settle for second. In the Kentucky Derby, he stumbled at the start and was never really in the race, finishing 11th. Came back 5 weeks later in the Belmont Stakes to set the pace for a mile, finishing second beaten 2 3/4 lengths.
