A field of eight older horses sprinted 6 furlongs on the main track in the $200,000 True North Handicap (G2). Count Fleet winner Bordonaro was sent off as the even-money favorite over Deputy Minister winner Keyed Entry and allowance winner Council Member, tied for second favoritism at 4-1.

Keyed Entry, Bordonaro, and 10-1 Will He Shine contested the initial quarter mile in 22.07 before Keyed Entry dropped out of contention allowing Will He Shine to take a 2 length lead at the top of the stretch after a half in 44.38. Edgar Prado urged Will He Shine to pull away and he did, opening up a 5 length advantage with a furlong to. 8-1 shot Suave Jazz put in a strong late rally but had too much distance to close as Will He Shine prevailed by 1 3/4 lengths, completing the trip in 1:08.70. Suave Jazz's entrymate Dashboard Drummer finished 1/2 length back in third, while Bordonaro faded badly late, finishing seventh.
