2006 Kentucky Oaks Results

A field of eight older fillies and mares entered the gate for the $300,000 Louisville Breeders' Cup Handicap (G2), a 1 1/16 mile event on the main track. 8-5 favorite Oonagh Maccool broke slowly but after settling nicely in fourth while staying out of trouble three-wide down the backstretch, while chasing the slow pace of 47.93 of Capeside Lady. Turning for home, jockey Rafael Bejarano asked her for run and got it, as she easily passed the tiring pacesetters and won by 3 1/4 lengths over the onrushing La Reason. The running time was 1:42.96 over a fast track. 3-1 second choice Sweet Symphony inexplicably never menaced and was next to last at the line.
