2008 Kentucky Derby Undercard Results

A field of eight older horses contested the $250,000 Churchill Downs Stakes (G2), a 7 furlong sprint on the main track. Elite Squadron, the 9-2 third choice, was sent to the lead immediately by jockey John Velazquez and set a fast pace of 21.98 and 43.70 while as many as 1 1/2 lengths ahead of the rest of the field. At the top of the stretch, Elite Squadron found another gear and pulled away, opening up a 2 1/2 length lead at the 1/8 pole and finishing the trip 4 1/2 lengths ahead of late-running 3-1 favorite Noonmark in a time of 1:21.53 over the fast track. 6-1 Hewitts finished another head back in third.
