Optimizer was taken out by his trainer D. Wayne Lukas and galloped around a couple laps. He drew post position 2 for the Derby. After the draw, Lukas said, "Not good. Well, it's not so bad. My horse isn't going to be that quick. You get down there and you are going to get a lot of dirt. We'll have to deal with it. I'm in the race, and that's the main thing."
