Update: Pool Three of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager is now closed. Off his spectacular win in the Santa Anita Derby, Brother Derek closed as the favorite at 5-1 with Lawyer Ron next at 8-1 while Barbaro and Discreet Cat were 9-1. The total pool was $454,743, third highest ever for the third pool. The Kentucky Oaks had only $51,212 wagered on it and Balance remained the favorite at 4-1 despite her loss to Brushfire in the Ashland at Keeneland.
The 2006 edition of Churchill Downs' Kentucky Derby Future Wager is set to open its third and final four-day run on Thursday, April 6th and for the first time the field is not the favorite. This time around, Brother Derek, winner of the Santa Catalina and entered this weekend in the Santa Anita Derby, is the 7-2 favorite. Florida Derby winner Barbaro is second favorite at 5-1 with the field of all other 3-year-olds next at 6-1.

The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager Pool Three will run this weekend also and Santa Anita Oaks winner Balance is the favorite at 7-2. She will be making her final prep at Keeneland in the Ashland Stakes this weekend. The field is second choice at 5-1 while Teammate, Wait a While, and Wild Fit are tied for third choise at 12-1.
Wagering on the four-day pool opens at noon (all times EDT) on Thursday April 6 and will continue until 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 9. Racetracks and off-track betting centers across North America will offer the wager, so visit your local track to get your wager down.
