2009 Kentucky Derby Entries and Post Positions are here
Graded stakes earnings are used to determine the order of preference for which horses are drawn into the Kentucky Derby if there are more than 20 horses, the maximum allowed number of starters, entered into the race. Below is a list of horses in order of graded earnings amount through April 18, with a link to a profile where available. The last graded prep, the Lexington, was run April 18 so unless someone decides to run in the Derby Trial or Withers only a week before the Derby this is the final earnings totals. Usually it will take at least $100,000 in graded earnings to make the field for the Derby.
This should be the final totals for 2009. Horses who are definitely out have been removed now. Quality Road is out as of 4/27 due to foot problems. Square Eddie out as of 4/28 with a bad shin again. Another one bites the dust as Win Willy drops out on 4/29 with an ankle problem.
