Only three fillies have won the Belmont Stakes in the previous 139 runnings. They were Ruthless (1867), Tanya (1905), and most recently Rags to Riches (2007). Only one, Genuine Risk (1980), finished second and six finished third, out of the just 22 who have entered.

Rags to Riches' win in the 2007 Belmont Stakes not only made her only the third filly in history and the first since 1905 to win, she was also a half-sister to 2006 Belmont winner Jazil. She was also sired by 1992 Belmont Stakes winner and Horse of the Year A.P. Indy, who stands at Lane's End Farm. Both Jazil and Rags to Riches are out of the Deputy Minister mare Better Than Honour.

Here is a chart of all the fillies in the Belmont Stakes with their odds (* indicates the win pool favorite) and finish position with winners in bold. There are no odds available for the races before 1885.
