Update: After winning the Timely Writer Stakes at Gulfstream Park, Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Uncle Mo was bet down to 3-1 favorite in Pool 2, over the mutuel field at 7-2 and 11-1 Dialed In. The total amount wagered during Pool One was $376,699, up 6% from last year. $279,534 was bet to win while just $97,165 went into the exacta pool. In the lone Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool, Kathmanblu was the 7-2 favorite over 7-1 Zazu and Joyful Victory at almost 8-1, followed by R Heat Lightning at 9-1 and the mutuel field at almost 10-1 A total of $92,902 was wagered in the Oaks Future, $63,804 to win and $29,098 in the exacta pool.
The 2012 edition of Churchill Downs' Kentucky Derby Future Wager opens its second three-day run on Friday March 11, and the mutuel field, the wagering interest that includes all 3-year-olds other than the 23 individual betting interests in the pool, is once again the favorite at 3-1. Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Uncle Mo, who makes his first start of 2012 this weekend, is next at 7-2. Also running this weekend is the single Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool for this year, where the field is also favored at 5-2 with Davona Dale Stakes winner R Heat Lightning and Santa Anita Oaks runner-up Zazu next at 8-1.
Wagering on the three-day pools, with both contain win and exacta bets, opened at noon (all times EST) on Friday March 5 until 6pm on Sunday, March 7 for the Derby Future and 6:30pm for the Oaks Future. Racetracks and off-track betting centers across North America will offer the wager. Pool 1 was held on February 18-20 while the third and final pool is set for April 1-3.
