The $2 million U.A.E. Derby (G2) is an 1800 meter (1 1/8 mile) event over the main dirt track at Nad al Sheba, restricted to Northern Hemisphere 3-year-olds and Southern Hemisphere 4-year-olds. Thirteen were entered including 4-5 favorite Asiatic Boy. Also in the field were two Godolphin entrants, 7-2 second choice Eu Tambem, and the filly Adil, 9-2 third choice.

Asiatic Boy and Day Pass took the lead quickly joined by Rallying Cry on the inside. On the backstretch the three front runners were joined by Eu Tambem, while Weichong Marwing restrained favorite Asiatic Boy a little before the far turn. Jack Junior raced in second on the rail with Adil in third. In the stretch, the Mike de Kock-trainee took off and left his opposition behind to win by an easy 9 1/2 lengths in a time of 1:48.82. Jack Junior tried hard to follow the Argentinean-bred colt and finished second, 2 3/4 in front of the Saudi Arabian-trained Adil in third. Eu Tambem was seventh while Folk was tenth.

Asiatic Boy became the first horse to sweep the U.A.E. Triple Crown, having won the the U.A.E. 2000 Guineas and the Al Bastakiya before capturing the U.A.E. Derby.
