The $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic is the first of two turf events on the card, and saw 14 older horses contest the 2400 meter trip (about 1 1/2 miles). English Derby winner Sir Percy was sent off as the 4-1 favorite over Japanese hope Pop Rock and Breeders' Cup Turf winner Red Rocks, each going off at 9-2 in the international betting pool.

Godolphin’s Best Alibi took the early lead, Quijano raced in second followed by Vengeance Of Rain on the rail, while Host and Honey Rider were travelling outside with Sir Percy in mid division. The placings and the moderate pace remained much the same down the backstretch, before Sir Percy started to make his move at the home turn. Vengeance Of Rain was still biding his time behind the leaders and made a move to the outside between Quijano and Sir Percy, quickening to take the lead at the 3/16 pole. Vengeance of Rain pulled away to a 1 1/4 length victory over late-running 33-1 Oracle West in 2:31.03 over "good" turf. Youmzain closed well to nose out Sir Percy in a photo finish to take third.
