Damien Oliver aboard Purple Moon said, "It's that feeling you don't want to feel, when you think you might have it won and you can see one coming out the corner of your eye. But we certainly had our chances to win it, the winner covered more ground than us so you can’t take anything away from him."

Trainer Luca Cumani added, "It looked like he was going to win but he got run down. I had my heart in my mouth but then I saw that horse coming from a long way out and I knew we were probably going to get caught. He had him beautifully positioned from the start. He had to move him out because the horse in front started to drop off. At this stage I feel slightly disappointed, we got close, but when it all sinks in, it's been a tremendous achievement. To come all this way and run well and to be the best of the internationals is great. He’s not a bad horse either. He may be back."
