Trainer Bart Cummings, winning his record-extending 12th Melbourne Cup and 250 Group 1 stakes, said, "My whole career -- it's been a joy to be involved. It still is. I reckon it's terrific to be a success in the field you've chosen. My father was a top trainer before me and I've learned most of my things from him. I'm just happy to be here."

Along with Viewed this year, Cummings' other Melbourne Cup winners are: Light Fingers (1965), Galilee (1966), Red Handed (1967), Think Big (1974 & 1975), Gold and Black (1977), Hyperno (1979), Kingston Rule (1990), Let's Elope (1991), Saintly (1996), and Rogan Josh (1999). As well, 1965, 1966, 1974, 1975, and 1991, Cummings trained both the first and second place winners in the Melbourne Cup. He was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1991, an inaugural inductee into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame, and made a member of the Order of Australia in 1982.
