Oh Deanne O took over the lead around the first of three turns and set easy fractions of 24.52, 49.15, 1:13.83, and 1:38.32. My Rachel and Green Girl stalked her most of the way around. Entering the stretch for the last time, the pacesetter faded allowing My Rachel to lead the field by mid stretch. But Redaspen, who was ninth entering the lane, found room on the inside of the course and put in a strong rally to get up to win by 3/4 length over Green Girl in a time of 2:26.63 over the good turf course. Dalvina moved up between horses late to get third place money, 1 1/4 lengths behind Green Girl.

The distaff counterpart to the McKnight is the $200,000 La Prevoyante Handicap (G2) at 1 1/2 miles on turf for older fillies and mares. Long Island Handicap winner Dalvina was the even-money favorite over 9-2 My Rachel, third in the Long Island, and 5-1 Green Girl, who was sixth to English Channel in the Turf Classic at Belmont Park two starts back.
