Dancer's Bajan must have a nose for the finish line. The chestnut 2-year-old, who won the Frost King Stakes by a nostril in his last start, repeated his feat with a head-bob victory in Saturday's $125,000 Kingarvie Stakes at Woodbine as the 9-5 second choice. The Trajectory gelding, under Corey Fraser, edged 11-1 shot D Bold Ruler in the 1 1/16-mile Polytrack event. Even-money favorite Legal Move, who suffered the nose defeat in the Frost King, was another 1/2-length back in third. The running time was 1:48.35.
Legal Move controlled the soft early pace, cutting splits of 25.13 and 49.76. Way back were Dancer's Bajan and D Bold Ruler (under Emile Ramsammy), but as the field reached the top of the stretch (3/4 in 1:14.80), the duo hit their strides and hit the wire together, but it was Dancer's Bajan who had his nose down first.
He paid $5.50, $3.80, $2.40 across the board and combined with D Bold Ruler ($7.90, $3.20) for a $47.70 exacta. Legal Move ($2.10) rounded out the $84.20 trifecta.
