The $300,000 Hill 'n Dale Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) at Aqueduct is the final Grade 1 event on the New York racing calendar, featuring older horses at 1 mile on the main track. Undefeated 3-year-old Discreet Cat was making his first start against older horses and was the 124-pound high weight and the 1-4 favorite, having won the Jerome last out. Also in the field were last year's Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Silver Train, and this year's Breeders' Cup Mile third place finisher Badge of Silver.
Sharp Humor bumped the favorite at the start and took advantage, taking the lead coming out of the chute through a quarter in 22.72. However, he was done early after a fast half of 44.83, allowing Discreet Cat and Silver Train to take the lead rounding the far turn. Through the stretch, Discreet Cat pulled away for good, winning easily by 3 1/4 lengths under little urging from jockey Garrett Gomez, in 1:32.46, just 6/100 seconds off Easy Goer's track record. Badge of Silver came on to be second by a neck over the tiring Silver Train.

Winning jockey Garrett Gomez said, "I wanted to be out in the clear, with him being the best horse. (Sharp Humor) was getting out pretty bad and I was stuck in the middle. Halfway up the backside, I decided to drop inside. My only concern was (Badge of Silver). I was giving up a lot of weight to the field. I guess the secretary weighted them right. I had plenty of horse in the stretch. I showed him the stick a couple of times and he went about his business. He's never been hit with it. I've been excited ever since I put a leg on him. To run as fast as they ran and the way he was doing it, he's just a nice horse."
