There are two other graded stakes races on the undercard of the Pattison Canadian International. The female counterpart to the International is the $1 million E.P. Taylor Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on the turf. Ten older fillies and mares went to the gate in this event, with Red Bloom shipping in from England for owners Cheveley Park Stud as the 9-5 favorite over British-bred but American-trained Angara, the 9-2 second choice. Leading the local contingent is Arravale, who won the Del Mar Oaks in August before finishing second in the Canadian over the same course as today's event.
13-1 Ready's Gal and favorite Red Bloom stalked 7-1 Live Life through a tepid pace of 26.10, 51.52, and 1:17.81 over the soft going. The pacesetter tired and faded from contention at the top of the stretch, as Ready's Gal took over the lead briefly, after a slow mile of 1:44.31. Arravale, who had raced back in seventh down the backstretch, made her move around the turn and when a hole opened on the inside, jockey Jose Valdivia sent her through, as she easily took the lead at the 3/16 pole, and held off the onrushing 13-1 Barancella late to win by just a length in 2;10.34. 9-1 Naissance Royale finished a neck back in third.
