A field of twelve older horses from both sides of the Atlantic went to post at Woodbine in the $2 million Pattison Canadian International(G1), a 1 1/2 mile trip over the E.P. Taylor Turf Course. Sunny skies and unusually warm temperatures in the high 70s made for ideal racing conditions, with a very firm course despite rain earlier in the week. English representative and Cumberland Lodge(G2) winner Ask was the 5-2 favorite over German representative and Grosser Preis von Baden(G1) winner Quijano at 4-1. Woodford Reserve Turf Classic(G1) winner Sky Conquerer was the top local hope on the board at 5-1.

45-1 longest shot Marsh Side set the pace of 25.18, 50.89, 1:15.60, and 1:40.02 while being stalked by 34-1 Linda's Lad and 18-1 Cloudy's Knight. Marsh Side tired at the top of the stretch as Sunriver took over the lead getting 1 1/4 miles in 2:04.36, however his lead was short-lived. Cloudy's Knight came out 3 wide to pass the tiring pacesetters and then angled in for better footing for the stretch run. Ash had hit his best stride and put in a strong rally after racing back in ninth. Cloudy's Knight opened up a 1 length lead with a furlong to go, and was all out late to hold off the late charge of Ask by a nose in a final time of 2:27.71 over the firm course. It was just a length back to late-running Quijano in third.
