On the undercard of the two juvenile feature events, the $300,000 Jamaica Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G2) featured 3-year-olds going 1 1/8 miles on the inner turf course. Colonial Turf Cup and Secretariat Stakes winner Showing Up was returning to age-restricted company after finishing third in the Man o’War in his first attempt against older horses.

27-1 outsider Kiss the Kid and 7-1 third choice Carnera dueled up front through easy fractions of 25.23, 49.72, and 1:12.97 over the “good” turf course, while jockey Cornelio Velasquez kept Showing Up in a comfortable stalking position 2 lengths off the pace and 3 lengths clear of the rest of the field. Around the far turn, Velasquez took him out wide to pass the pacesetters. The favorite powered to the front on his own, and drew away through the stretch to win by 3 1/2 lengths over late-running 5-1 second choice Outperformance in a time of 1:47.81. It was another 2 lengths back to 15-1 Spider Power in third.
