The juvenile main track divisions of the Breeders' Cup Challenge were featured at Belmont Park before 5,435 paying spectators on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The $400,000 Champagne Stakes (G1) for 2-year-olds earns the winner a berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. A field of 6 went 1 mile on the main track, with Dublin the 7-10 choice off his win in the Hopeful at Saratoga. Hopeful runner-up Aspire was the 4-1 second choice over 5-1 Homeboykris making his stakes debut.
Super Saver battled for the lead with Discreetly Mine down the backstretch through fractions of 22.79, 45.78, and 1:09.51 over the fast track with Homeboykris and Aspire stalking them third and fourth respectively. Dublin was unhurried in fifth 3 lengths off the pace. Entering the stretch, Super Saver tired allowing Discreetly Mine to inherit the lead at the 3/16 pole. Jockey Edgar Prado moved Homeboykris wide for the drive and he closed well through the stretch to pass Discreetly Mine at the 1/16 pole to win going away by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:35.12. It was just 1/4 a length back to Aspire third, while Dublin failed to respond when asked in the stretch, finishing fifth beaten 3 3/4 lengths.
