The first Grade 1 stakes race of Travers weekend is the $400,000 Personal Ensign (G1) for older fillies and mares at 1 1/4 miles on Friday. Only five entered with Fleet Indian sent off as the 3-5 favorite. She ran as expected, taking the lead right away and getting away with pedestrian fractions of 25.62, 50.67, 1:15.21, and 1:39.51 while allowed an uncontested lead of as many as 2 lengths. When 9-5 second choice Balletto issued a challenge on the far turn, it proved futile as Fleet Indian easily drew off through the stretch to win by 4 1/4 lengths in 2:03.87 for the 10-furlong trip. It was a long 6 3/4 lengths back to 11-1 outsider Soul Search in third.
