A field of eight 3-year-old fillies went 1 1/8 miles on the Mellon turf in the $150,000 Lake Placid Stakes (G2) on Friday afternoon. Lake George runner-up Lady Attack was sent off as the 5-2 favorite over 3-1 Sharp Susan, third in the Lake George. 4-1 Christmas Kid rounded out the top three on the board, coming off a third place finish in the Virginia Oaks.

Sharp Susan was loose on the lead through easy fractions of 23.95, 47.42, and 1:10.32 over the firm course. 48-1 longest shot Limoncella and Christmas Kid led the tightly bunched field behind the lone pacesetter, with Lady Attack trailing the field throughout. Entering the stretch, Sharp Susan accelerated and opened up a 2 1/2-length advantage at the 1/8 pole. 10-1 New Edition, fifth early, put in a late rally but was no match for Sharp Susan who cruised to an easy 1 1/2 length victory in 1:46.69. It was just 3/4-length back to favorite Lady Attack who also put in a strong late rally.
