Despite losing a show on the clubhouse turn, 14-1 shot Live Life was loose on the lead most of the way around, setting a moderate pace of 23.33, 46.82, 1:11.18, and 1:36.19. Through the stretch, the pacesetter looked like she was all set to steal it on the front end, but Gorella, who raced back in ninth early, had come out 6 wide on the far turn and was closing well. Gorella ran right by the tiring pacesetter to win by 1 3/4 lengths, easily holding off the late charge of Film Maker in a time of 1:55.71. Live Life barely hung on to third by a nose over Honey Ryder.
