The older sprinters highlighted the Sunday card at Saratoga on Whitney weekend. Dark clouds and showers were the order of the day with temperatures in the low 70's. The $250,000 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G2) features some of the best older male sprinters of the east going 6 furlongs on the main track. As expected Fabulous Strike was sent off as the even-money favorite exiting a win in the True North Handicap at Belmont. In to challenge him included Donald LeVine Memorial Handicap winner Kodiak Kowboy at 3-1 and Smile Sprint runner-up Benny the Bull at 7-2.
Go Go Shoot sprinted clear along the inside under jockey John Velazquez and he set fractions of 22.03 and 44.52 while a length in front of Fabulous Strike in second. Go Go Shoot continued to lead to mid-stretch, but Fabulous Strike found another gear late to pass the pacesetter late to win by a length in 1:08.69 over the fast track. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to late-running Kodiak Kowboy third.
