Heavy rains earlier in the card greeted the 37,090 fans who came out to Monmouth Park for the Haskell Invitational on Sunday. The main track was sloppy as a result, and all the turf stakes races were moved to the main track, causing both Grade 3's to be automatically downgraded to Listed pending review by the Graded Stakes Committee. Given the small fields that did go, they are unlikely to have their grades reinstated for this year's running.
The $200,000 Oceanport Stakes was originally carded on the turf but was run on the main track at 1 1/16 miles. After 4 scratches, just 3 ran, as 7-10 favorite Get Serious broke first and went to the lead immediately, setting an easy pace of 25.36, 49.19, and 1:12.43. Kiss The Kid, who stalked him in second closed well late but Get Serious held him off in the final strides to prevail by a neck in 1:43.02. It was a long 4 1/4 lengths back to Pleasant Strike third.
