The Distaff counterpart to the Whitney is the $250,000 Go For Wand Handicap (G1), for older fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles looking for a berth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff. Ginger Punch was sent off the 6-5 favorite off her First Flight Handicap victory, with Apple Blossom winner Ermine the 8-5 second choice over 6-1 Teammate, 6th in the Odgen Phipps at Belmont in her last start.

Teammate set a slow pace of 24.51, 48.84, and 1:12.86, while being stalked by Ginger Punch around the clubhouse turn and down the backstretch. The pacesetters opened up a 3 length lead on the rest of the field. Teammate faded on the far turn allowing Ginger Punch to take over the lead. Jockey Rafael Bejarano asked Ginger Punch to pull away and she did, extending her lead through the stretch to win by 6 lengths in 1:49.19. Late-running 7-1 shot Miss Shop put in a good rally to get second but was no match for the winner, finishing 2 1/4 lengths ahead of pacesetter Teammate in third. Ermine hit the gate at the start and showed no rally, finishing last.
